About the author:

 

As the son of a US foreign service officer, David W Sirkin grew up in England, India, and Greece, in addition to the USA.  He has also worked in Switzerland and has travelled in several other European and Asian countries.  He holds an MS in electrical and computer engineering and a PhD in biology, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and an MD from the University of Michigan.  He has done research in brainstem control of head and eye movements, compensation of equilibrium systems after inner ear damage, ultrasound imaging to measure blood flow, and harmonization of music utilizing artificial intelligence machine learning software.  (A list of his scientific publications can be found by searching for “sirkin dw” at Pub Med.   The Sirkin Harmonizer [Harmonizer 1.62], a music program for Mac OS9 and older mac systems, can be downloaded from  Partners in Rhyme.)  Sirkin has been a scientist, a computer programmer, a science teacher, an opera singer, and a volunteer columnist for a town newspaper.  He is currently a psychiatrist in the California prison system.
